NOTE: Originally written in one of my journal entries.

Hello, everybody! I’m back! Today, I decided to look at something scary. What’s one thing that truly scares us? Well, to me, that answer is heck. Sometimes we wonder about the bad things we do in life, and what will we ultimately get in the end, and what better to wonder this then the 1954 Sylvester and Tweety cartoon,
Satan’s Waitin’. This has been called one of the best Sylvester and Tweety cartoons. But does it still hold up? Let’s find out.

The premise is that while chasing Tweety Bird, Sylvester accidentally falls off a building and loses a life. The life ends up in heck where a devil-like dog is waiting for him. The devil explains that since cats have nine lives, Sylvester has to wait for the other eight before being thrown in eternal torment. And the rest of the short is Sylvester being persuaded by the devil to chase Tweety while accidentally losing all of his lives. And before I continue I need to point out the ending before I go further.

SPOILERS!!!!

Sylvester, cautious of his last life, hides in a bank. But two robbers, when trying to rob use too much explosives to break in, causing them and Sylvester to go into heck.

Let me first get out a problem I always had with this short. I am honestly not sure why Sylvester ends up in heck. The short implies that chasing Tweety is a big part of it, but I am still not sure. Cats eat birds all the time, I thought. Isn’t that the whole ‘Circle of Life…and it rules us all…’….sorry, it’s a habit.

Anyways, I had a discussion with fellow reviewer :iconspb2015: about this and he brought up is that the reason Sylvester went to heck is that he kept chasing Tweety. That is a good point, but a lot of the Looney Tunes cartoons are non-canon, and Sylvester and Tweety met up for the first time in a lot of cartoons, so this could be the first time that Sylvester chases Tweety. Maybe if Sylvester said ‘After all these years, I will finally get that bird!’ at one point in the short, it probably would’ve worked. Either way, after seeing this short, I'm honestly surprised it didn't make it on :iconmrenter:'s 'Top 25 Most Disturbing Episodes of Kids' Cartoons' list.

Now that I got that out of the way, let me get into the good stuff, because there is not only good stuff but I think it’s some of the best I’ve seen in any Looney Tunes cartoon. The animation and scenery is wonderful. The colors here from the building and too the carnival look really big and make it feel more cinematic. And the same can be said of heck itself. It really looks terrifying and something else :iconspb2015:added is that it teaches a good lesson which is be careful what you do in life, you never know when you’re going to kick the bucket.

Another strength it has is the talent of the legendary Mel Blanc. He doesn’t only voice Sylvester and Tweety, but he also provides the voice of the devil-dog, and it is a very chilling performance. His menacing laugh is absolute NIGHTMARE FUEL. And the performance as Sylvester is great too, he’s given the perfect tone that represents fear. Never going too over the top, it really sounds like Sylvester is afraid.

So to wrap it up, Satan’s Waitin’ is a good cartoon. I do wish they would’ve explained more of Sylvester’s wrong doings, but it makes up for it with top-notch animation and scenery, good humor and perfect voice acting. I say check it out! But still, be careful what you do in life, because if you're not careful, EVIL WILL FIND YOU!!!!! BWA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA!!!!!!

I think this is much better than that god awful short, Heavenly Puss, cause not only is it different, it also explained why Sylvester is going to hell, for trying to eat Tweety.
